Privacy policy
Information we collect
The Town Works may collect:
- account information such as name, email address, telephone number, username, and authentication data;
- profile information;
- location or community affiliation information you elect to provide;
- transaction agreements and transaction history;
- messages or records submitted through transaction and dispute features;
- reputation, recommendation, and completion information;
- support communications;
- technical information such as browser, device, IP address, and security logs;
- information received from payment processors concerning payment or connected-account status.
The Town Works generally does not need to receive full payment-card numbers when payment information is entered directly into Stripe-controlled payment components.
How we use information
We use information to:
- provide and secure The Town Works;
- create and administer transactions;
- facilitate payments and payouts;
- verify accounts;
- build transaction history and reputation;
- prevent fraud and abuse;
- resolve disputes;
- administer community-reserve programs;
- comply with legal obligations;
- improve the service;
- communicate with participants.
Stripe and financial providers
When users choose to make or receive electronic payments, information may be shared with Stripe or other payment providers as necessary to provide those services. Stripe separately collects and processes information under its own privacy terms. Connected providers may be required to provide Stripe with identity, ownership, tax, banking, or business information.
SMS and text messaging
The Town Works uses text messages to verify telephone numbers and to send account, security, and transaction notifications related to activity you initiate on the service. You provide your mobile number and consent to receive these messages when you add a phone number to your account or begin a verification. Message frequency varies with your account activity. Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to any message to opt out of further text messages, and reply HELP for help. Opting out of verification messages may limit access to features that require a verified telephone number.
Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
The Town Works shares mobile numbers only with messaging service providers, such as Supabase and Twilio, strictly to transmit these messages on its behalf, and as otherwise described in this policy.
Public information
The Town Works profiles may display information the user elects or agrees to make public, such as:
- display name
- general service area
- services offered
- transaction counts
- repeat-customer indicators
- recommendations
- reputation information
The Town Works should not display sensitive payment, tax, identification-document, or bank information publicly.
Data retention
The Town Works may retain transaction and account records for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, comply with financial-recordkeeping obligations, satisfy legal requirements, and protect participants.
Your choices
Users may request access, correction, or deletion of eligible personal information, subject to records The Town Works must retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, tax, payment, or dispute purposes. Privacy requests: admin@thetownworks.com.
California residents
California residents may have additional rights under applicable California privacy law. The Town Works will provide any additional notices required once the nature and scale of its processing make particular California privacy statutes applicable.
